Immediate opening for an EXECUTIVE CHEF to oversee all culinary activities in two restaurants and our fishing lodge along the Rio Grande River.  South Fork, Colorado is a small alpine mountain town located in the heart of the Rio Grande National Forest with over 155 miles of trails, 15 miles from Wolf Creek Ski Resort and within driving distance to Durango, Pagosa Springs, and Lake City. Summer weather is typically in the high 70’s.  A perfect place to work, live and play! 

The Executive Chef is responsible for all restaurant, grille and banquet execution, food quality, sanitation and cleanliness standards, recruiting and training, food costs, kitchen labor costs, and menu development. The Executive Chef will provide the vision, direction and will be the face of all aspects in the culinary area. This person needs to lead food excellence and ensure that our menus stay local, fresh and unique.


Must be able to work weekends, days, nights and holidays based on event schedule and be flexible according to our banquet events. Must be able to perform basic computer skills such as Excel, Word, and Outlook. Must be able to fully communicate verbal and written skills in English.

Prior banquet experience is needed – buffet and plated, 20 to 200 guest events. Must be able to lift 20-40 pounds on a regular basis, stand on feet up to 8 hours at a time, and have enough stamina to work a full shift. Physical job requirements require being able to bend, knee, stoop, grasp, reach, push, pull, and twist on a regular basis. Exposure to extreme temperatures – freezers, coolers, ovens and outdoors.  Must be able to operate kitchen equipment properly and train others to do so to standard. Minimum 4 years as Chef of a full-service operation supervising a minimum of 5 cooks. Good interpersonal skills required to communicate professionally and courteously with cooks, front of house staff, sales staff, marketing, finance, golf shop and management. Must be friendly and able to communicate with members and guests.  Strong organizational abilities and effective time management skills a must. Hands-on leader who sets the example for others to follow ensuring a professional atmosphere both in front and behind the kitchen.  Golf and or private club experience is a plus.


  • Daily execution of food quality and consistency to include timeliness and plate presentation
  • Develop and revise restaurant and banquet menus
  • Food safety, product rotation, labeling and dating are paramount
  • Kitchen cleanliness and sanitation standards are consistently achieved
  • Recruit the best cooks available, and thoroughly train the culinary staff
  • Coaches, counsels and documents kitchen staff
  • Achieves food cost goals
  • Achieves kitchen labor cost goals
  • Maintains proper inventory level and control systems
  • Works side-by-side with cooks and can perform any function in the kitchen –  prep, sauté, grill, fry, etc.
  • Work directly with Food & Beverage Director on vision, menu development, special projects and events, financial goals, etc.
  • Orders food products and works with vendors to ensure proper quality and pricing
  • Develop written recipes and standards for all menu items
  • Responsible for wedding tastings and all banquet events
  • Performs on-going research (competition, magazines, books, etc.) to remain current with food and dining trends
  • Manages banquet catered events (golf tournaments, weddings, happy hours, member mixers, etc)
  • Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned by supervisor
