Baleia is hiring a Sous Chef to join their team!

At Baleia (whale in Portuguese), we offer a Portuguese-inspired menu, from food to cocktails, and feature an all-Portuguese wine list. Were located on the ground floor of the Troy Building, right at the intersection of South Boston and the South End in the Ink Block neighborhood. Our space is vibrant yet intimate, with seating for around 100 guests between the dining room and our 14-seat bar offering an elevated and thoughtful service experience.

Were looking for a skilled Sous Chef to join our kitchen leadership team. This role is hands-onleading service, mentoring staff, and maintaining the highest standards for food, cleanliness, and hospitality. Youll work closely with the Executive Chef to manage daily operations, execute service with excellence, and foster a positive, high-performance kitchen culture.

What Youll Do

  • Help Manage the day to day kitchen operations of Gufo
  • Lead the kitchen during prep and service, ensuring pace, quality, and consistency
  • Train, mentor, and support kitchen staff
  • Uphold food quality, cleanliness, and organization standards
  • Assist with ordering, inventory, and menu development

  • Previous management experience preferred but not required
