We operate the largest residential program for formerly homeless women and children in the Sacramento region providing services 24 hours/day, 365 days/year, offering shelter, meals, childcare, and comprehensive support services, including Behavioral Health Services, Hands-on Employment Training, Career Education, and Family Services.

About the Position…
The Vocational Trainer/Cook/Baker is an integral position at Saint John’s Program. This role is responsible for delivery of the hands-on training portion of SJP’s vocational training program. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Social Enterprises, the Vocational Trainer/Cook/Baker ensures that vocational learners (VL’s) are learning how to master both their hard and soft vocational skills as they progress towards self-sufficiency.
You’ll be responsible for…
Provide teaching, training, and supervision for volunteer learners (VL’s) on the various aspects of the different projects managed by SJP kitchen staff.
Exhibit the ability to remain calm, but assertive, in tense situations.
Able to establish rapport with a diverse range of people.
Able to aid VL’s in managing interpersonal conflicts and identifying solutions.
Exhibit clear and effective communication skills.
Prep and scale out recipes for production.
Implementation of cooking/baking product recipes.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position which includes, but is not limited to, standing for up to 10 hours and lifting up to 40lbs.
Practice and assure adherence to sanitation and safety procedures, as well as SJP’s operational policies and procedures.
Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
You must have...
High School Diploma
One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work well in team environment
Good interpersonal skills
Punctual and good attendance
Effective communication skills including both oral and written form
Attention to detail
Maintain confidentiality
A current CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required.
A Food Handler’s Certification will be required.
