The University of Oregon's Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB), located in Charleston, OR, seeks a Part-Time Cook 1 to support OIMB's Dining Hall services. This position will assist the kitchen team during unexpected staff shortages and other situations requiring additional Dining Hall coverage.
The OIMB Part-Time Cook 1 prepares and serves meals for students, staff, visiting groups, and special events. This position will prepare meals according to menus, recipes, or verbal instructions and utilize cooking methods such as boiling, grilling, steaming, roasting, and baking. This position is responsible storing food, cleaning the kitchen and equipment, keeping the work area sanitary, and maintaining records including an accurate count of meals served. This position works in conjunction with the kitchen team to create a trend-setting dining experience in a diverse, respectful, and inclusive working environment.
The kitchen is typically staffed Monday-Friday (6am-7pm) and Saturday-Sunday (9am-7pm). The current schedule for this part-time position is Thursdays 3-7pm, Fridays 3-7pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm, and Sundays 9am-1pm, with additional on-call opportunities as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- 1 year of experience as a cook in a commercial food service facility; OR possession of a Certificate of Completion in culinary arts and/or Foods and Hospitality Service from a certified community college or technical school.
- Ability to obtain an Oregon Food Handler's card.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
