Days Creek School District seeks qualified applicants for a Head Cook to begin July 29, 2025. This position works 178 days per year, 8 hours per day, 4 days per week.

GENERAL INFORMATIONSalary/Pay Rate: $18.09 - $21.62 per hour

JOB SUMMARYThis position is responsible for all aspects of food production in assigned school, ensuring sanitation, food cost, and scheduling guidelines are achieved. This is a working lead position with the primary duties focused on preparing and serving food.

DUTIESThis not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.Performs the major cooking tasks in preparing school meals in accordance with planned menus.Assists with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met.Reports inferior quality of food or faulty equipment to the appropriate authority.Prepares food according to a planned menu and tested, uniform recipes, and determines if the finished product is of best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served.Arranges for proper storage of food supplies and sets standards of efficiency and sanitation in food preparation.Works with custodial and maintenance staff in cleaning of kitchen and equipment.Supervision of helpers and students performing the more routine food service tasks.Handle food properly, prepare and cook items on menu; supervise and assign work to the cook's helper; operate standard cooking and kitchen equipment.Take daily inventory of supplies; count money and reconcile accounts; and keep necessary records, such as participation in free and reduced lunch program.Organize work time to review and use menus, recipes, production specifications and program standards to prepare and cook meals to standards, particularly those related to food quality/safety.Operate meal computer to compute daily meals, sales and bank deposit.Manage food/supply order, receipt, storage and inventory functions using prescribed process/system & tools.Help maintain a fiscally sound food service operation, which includes controlling food, supply and payroll costs to set standards.Other duties may be assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GEDAt least one year of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.Prior experience in food service strongly preferred.Must have or be able to obtain a valid Oregon Driver License.Yearly completion of Safe Schools training required.Oregon Food Handlers Certificate required.
