These duties are carried out in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations as well as within the policies and procedures of Friends House Retirement Community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reads menu to estimate food requirements and procures food from storage areas. Does advance preparation tasks as needed and directed. Adjusts thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and steam kettles and other equipment. Prepares food according to preparation sheets and provided recipes to prepare soups, salads, entrees, desserts, sauces, including accompaniments and garnishes. Completes food temperature checks each meal. Observes and tests foods being cooked by tasting each item. Prepare food for delivery to various dining areas and responsible for back up of each area, batch cooking whenever possible. Completes preparation records and stores food items properly at close of meal service. Cleans work area and equipment used in food preparation. Follows safety and sanitation rules and practices, including correct procedures for lifting and bending. Ensures that all food preparation and assembling is done in accordance with established procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of fire safety procedures and assist with evacuation of residents to a safe location in the event of fire or another emergency. Assists co-workers with tasks as needed and/or directed. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for following the code of conduct that is the foundation for Friends House Retirement Community Corporate Compliance program; reporting any violations of the code of conduct of the compliance program; disclosing any personal violation of the code of conduct to the appropriate management staff; following the policies and procedures Friends House Retirement Community has established for meeting HIPAA regulations; reporting any violations of HIPAA regulations. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as recipes, preparation record sheets, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions of kitchen equipment. Ability to complete written information on procedure sheets and other forms as needed. Ability to communicate verbally with supervisors and other team members. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure for recipes. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision.
