ASM Global has excellent and immediate openings for part time cooks with ASM Global Knoxville at the Knoxville Convention Center. Cooks will report to the Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef and will be responsible for the production of hot and cold foods and performing any assigned kitchen tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in the preparation of cut vegetables, baked goods, and cold sauces.
  • Always maintains organized sanitary workstation in compliance with industry standards.
  • Properly label and dates food items for storage.
  • Uses cutlery and kitchen machinery.
  • Minimizes waste by following established production techniques.
  • Follows approved recipes and production standards.
  • Ability to produce high quality food in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to follow recipes and perform basic math to calculate production demands.
  • Strong knowledge of sanitary practices with the ability to gain ServSafe Certification.
  • Positive, customer service-oriented attitude at all times.
  • Strong knowledge of sanitary practices.
  • Maintains proper grooming and dress code standards.
  • Demonstrate and encourage strong work ethic and quality in a team environment.
  • Perform all other work duties as assigned. Assist with plating of catered meals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • A minimum of two years' experience in food service as prep cook is highly preferred.
  • ServSafe Certified or be able to obtain certification within 90 days.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of all major kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Ability to properly operate ovens, stoves, grills, steamers, smoker, mixers, kettles, char-broiler and other kitchen equipment.
  • Must be able to identify and properly use all kitchen small wares.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong knowledge of state health codes and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to adhere to strict grooming standards established by SMG/KCC.
  • Ability to recognize and utilize weights and measurements, both liquid and dry.
  • Knowledge and skills in diverse culinary techniques including multi-ethnic cuisine, displays, sauces, protein cutting, plate presentation and sanitation.
  • Skill in volume production and hands-on cooking.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions necessary to execute recipes.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to execute large functions.
  • Ability to read printed words and numbers in printed form and on computer/terminal monitor.
  • Hearing sufficient to clearly hear voices, alarms, bells and horns.
  • Be able to work overtime as needed, often with little notice.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check.

  • Must be able to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends based on facility event schedule.
