WSU Charter Academy Kitchen Helper

The WSU Charter Academy kitchen helper will primarily assist the head cook in all areas related to preparing and serving healthy meals to the students of WSU Charter Academy, including maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen facility. Candidates must enjoy working in a kitchen/food service setting and with young children, able to work independently after receiving direction from the head cook, and dependable. The kitchen helper will work up to 20 hours per week. Hours of availability needed are flexible between Monday through Friday, from 7:30 - 3:30. Hourly rate will be $12.00. Position will follow the WSU Charter Academy student schedule (very similar to WSU academic calendar), beginning in early August and ending in late May.

Job responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assist the head cook in preparing and serving healthy meals (breakfast, lunch, snack) for young children.
  • Perform daily cleaning and periodic maintenance of the kitchen facility and equipment, as directed by the head cook.
  • Assist the head cook with grocery and supply inventory.
  • Assist with the purchasing of groceries and other other needed supplies, under the direction of the head cook.
  • Assist with the completion of the required record keeping and paperwork under the direction of the head cook.
  • Attend orientation, training, and meetings as required.
  • Be open and responsive to feedback provided by the head cook and/or WSU Charter Academy Director.
  • Read, understand, and comply with all applicable WSU Charter Academy policies and procedures, and the State of Utah food handling/food service policies and procedures.
  • Complete required training, including State of Utah Food Handlers permit, provided by the Utah State Food Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the WSU Charter Academy director or head cook.

Required Qualifications

  • Enjoy working in a kitchen and/or food service environment
  • Enjoy working with young children
  • Able to work independently after receiving direction from the head cook
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Willing to obtain State of Utah Food Handlers permit (training provided).
