Description
As our Lead Cook, you will be responsible for preparing food items while also cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining the kitchen and surrounding areas.
This position may require flexible scheduling availability.
Requirements
Prepare food ordered by restaurant customers using a variety of kitchen equipment (grills, ovens, fryers, meat slicers, food processors, etc.)
Perform shift opening/closing duties as assigned by the Restaurant Manager, including starting equipment and cleaning of refrigeration units, grill and surrounding area, as well as other kitchen equipment
Maintain cooking areas and ensure kitchen equipment and food storage areas are clean, sanitary, and organized as required by the Health Department Rules and Regulations
Report any kitchen equipment or maintenance issues to the Restaurant Manager
Restock products as needed throughout the shift
Collaborate with Restaurant Manager to determine daily specials, new menu items, and innovative ways to cook and prepare food
Regularly check the menu cycle to ensure all food items are available in advance, notifying the Restaurant Manager of any shortages
Assist Kitchen Manager with day-to-day operations and staff delegation.
Job Qualifications:
Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use email and the internet
Food Handling Certification is required
Strong communication skills
Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time
6 months of previous restaurant cook experience is desired
Demonstrated knowledge of restaurant food preparation and presentation
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The number of hours you will be scheduled to work during the week is variable and is based on guest occupancy, season, staffing and other factors. Island Hospitality is unable to guarantee a specific number of work hours per week.
