Astria Health is seeking a Cook to join our team! This will be at our Toppenish Hospital.

The shifts for this will be variable in days and hours based on scheduling needs.

The Cook is responsible for preparing food products utilizing basic and advanced cooking techniques, standard recipes and plating guidelines; and directing staff to meet production schedules in accordance with health, safety and sanitary procedures, ensuring quality food service is provided at all times. This position is responsible for production, storage, and ensuring proper utilization of food and supplies within the kitchen to meet the diverse needs of our patients, families, and staff. Maintains organization and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work areas throughout the shift and in accordance with policies and procedures. Participates in improvement work, recipe and menu development, showcases culinary skills and products, and performs related tasks as required. You will:

  • Prepares patient, cafeteria, and catering food items using standard recipes, therapeutic diets, modified textures and advanced cooking techniques
  • Prepare food products utilizing basic and advanced cooking techniques, standard recipes, and plating guidelines. Showcases good knife skills and culinary skills
  • Set the menu and patient food production schedule each shift, for Food Services staff, in accordance with health, safety and sanitary procedures.
  • Communicates and coordinates daily with the Lead Cook and Food Services Manager on strategies to accomplish production goals, maintain quality standards, and maintain accurate daily production records.
  • Participates in recipe and menu development.
  • Directs and supports Food Services staff with lower-level food preparation and serving tasks, dish, utensil and equipment washing and sanitation. Ensures correct portions are served to patients to comply with diet order standards.
  • Operate kitchen equipment including ovens, microwaves, slicers, toasters, automatic and manual coffee machines, food processors and blenders.
  • Ensure proper labeling, dating, utilization, rotation, and storage of food and supplies within the dry storage, coolers, and freezer. Supports with inventory counting.
  • Directs and maintains standards, orderliness and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, and work areas throughout the shift.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, food ordering, vendor delivery verification, and food/supply stocking.
  • Maintain daily logs for temperature checks, sanitation, waste, production, and compliance audits.
  • Attends training and development classes and work site meetings as required by the Food Service Manager.
  • Assists in the cross training of employees as required by the Food Services Manager.
  • Wears the prescribed uniform and maintains a professional appearance at all times.
  • May process payments including credit/debit card transactions.
  • Collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • High School Graduation or GED.
  • Four (4) years of professional food production experience including food preparation, cooking and baking.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling procedures and techniques. Food safety and kitchen sanitation.
  • Current Washington State Food Handler Card (or) Permit obtained within 15 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications and Education.

  • Culinary Degree or Formalized Apprenticeship preferred.
  • Experience with food production in a catering, hotel, or hospital setting preferred.

Pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
