Summary of Functions \n

Assists in preparing, cooking, and serving food to students and staff in an atmosphere of efficiency, and cleanliness. Will perform various fast-paced and quick-thinking functions to carry out those objectives. \n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities \n

Food Service - Prepares, produces, heats, cooks, bakes and serves a variety of foods including entrees, meats, vegetables, breads, salads, fresh fruit, sandwiches, beverages or other foods specified by the menus, recipes, and production records. \n

  • Sets up food and food service areas and serves food. \n
  • Operates kitchen equipment such as, but not limited to, mixers, slicers, ovens, stove tops, tilt-skillets and kettles, warmers, coolers, dishwasher, garbage disposals. \n
  • Utilizes kitchenware such as, but not limited to knives, spatulas, whisks, tongs, spoons, ladles, measuring devices. \n

Safety- Prepares, handles, stores and disposes of food in accordance with appropriate safety standards. Cleaning- Cleans kitchen equipment, counters, serving lines, and helps with all dishes and trays when needed. Cleans freezers, coolers, and dry storage areas daily, weekly and monthly as needed. \n

Cooperation - Works and cooperates with all school personnel. \n

Assistance - Helps supervisor plan daily work schedule. Ordering and receiving inventory. Monthly menus, and production records. \n

Public Relations - Takes affirmative steps to develop good cooperative relationships with vendors, \n

staff, students, visitors, and others who utilize or provide service to the cafeteria facility. Strives to create a positive, friendly environment, with emphasis in making children feel at ease and enjoy their cafeteria experience. \n

Acting - Serves as helpful leader and must be able to produce daily menu items when the supervisor is absent. Training - Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned. Provides orientation and training to new cafeteria staff. \n

Other - Performs such other functions and assumes such other responsibilities as the supervisor may from time to time assign or delegate. Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions. \n

  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction and take responsibility to complete tasks on own. \n
  • Ability to prepare, produce, cook, bake, assemble and serve a large quantity of foods. \n
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities rapidly and efficiently with a team \n
  • Ability to work cohesively with peers, supervisors, school personnel and students \n
  • Ability to exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views, give and welcome feedback, and contribute to building a positive team. Is able to build morale and team commitments to goals and objectives and support everyone's efforts. \n

Qualifications Education\/Experience - \n

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skills and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. However, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications: \n

  • High school diploma or equivalent \n
  • Two (2) years of experience in school food services or (4) years in related food service \n
  • Knowledge of and experience in food preparation, particularly in preparing large quantities \n
  • Ability to interact positively with students, supervisors and staff \n
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions\/recipes \n
  • Must have, or be able to obtain during the probationary period, a food handler's permit \n
  • Physical ability to walk and stand for an eight (8) hour shift; stand for extended periods; and to exert 10 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects \n
  • Ability to work with others and without close supervision \n
  • Good work habits \n \n
