Position Purpose
The Head Start Teacher Aide has the responsibility to assist the HS Teacher with promoting the social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development of each child in a safe and supervised educational environment. The Teacher Aide assists the HS Teacher in conducting classroom activities, maintaining the classroom environment, supervising children, assisting in planning and record keeping, and other classroom related duties. (This is a 10-month position August - June)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Effective Practices
Assists the Head Start Teacher with the preparation and direction of the following classroom curricular and program services activities:
Classroom activities in the areas of bilingual/multicultural education, children with disabilities and health, nutrition, mental health, and social-emotional development for all children;
Measure, record and update the height and weight of all children;
Observe and provide feedback to the teacher regarding children with health and/or nutritional needs;
Assist the HS Teacher with assessing the growth and development of children;
Involve parents in classroom and take-home activities;
Support the HS Teacher with individualizing one-to-one and group activities to reflect the unique needs and strengths of all children;
Assist the HS Teacher in referring children those with special needs to the appropriate content area.
Supervises children at all times.
Responds to crisis or emergency situations that may arise; provides first aid or CPR; prevents the spread of blood borne pathogens and accesses emergency services as needed.
Content Area Domains
Assists in preparing classroom materials to support lesson plans; changes learning centers as needed.
Assists in integrating all domains to encourage language, experimentation and exploration, problem solving, cooperation, making choices, and growth of a positive self-esteem in an environment that is orderly, clean, visually appealing, safe, and literacy rich.
Promotes family style meals and snacks. Sits with children during mealtime and conducts socializing conversations to engage children.
Input home visits, parent conferences, attendance, and meal-counts into Child Plus.
Learning Environments
Cooperates with supervisors and content specialists.
Maintains positive attitude with children, families, co-workers and supervisors.
Collaborative Service Delivery
Integrates the recommendations provided by different content specialists into the classroom.

Demonstrates respect for others by sharing information objectively and non-judgmentally and adjusting verbal and written communication for different audiences.
Ensures communication is easily understood by speaking and writing clearly and using standard grammar and spelling.
Professionalism
Ensure confidentiality of all program information i.e. be cognizant of confidential conversations with families and other staff members.
Maintains professional boundaries with staff and families.
Completes all required paperwork and reports by assigned deadlines.
Complies with Child Inc. Personnel Policies and Procedures, and with Standards of Conduct outlined in the Child Inc Employee Handbook, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS), and Head Start Performance Standards.
Cooperates with supervisors, support staff and community resource partners.
Personal and Professional Development
Attends and participates in weekly team meetings, all pre-service, in-service, and any other training deemed necessary by Child Inc.
Furthers professional growth by seeking opportunities to improve skill and knowledge in the field of early childhood.
Any person who suspects child abuse or neglect is required to report it within 48 hours to the appropriate agency.1
Completes yearly Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) and submits it to Human Resources.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Ability to be flexible with work assignments and work schedules.
Excellent communication skills, especially good listening skills.
Ability to follow policies and procedures.
