Sparrow Bakery is a busy, medium-sized, regional, wholesale and retail bakery specializing in hand-laminated croissants and crave-worthy cafe foods. Founded in Bend in 2006, we began to service local, reputable wholesale accounts in Portland in 2019 (Zupan's Markets, Stumptown Coffee, Case Study, Bastion, Coava Coffee, Providore, Market of Choice, New Seasons, and more), and in 2020 we opened our first regional retail cafe in St. Johns.

We are searching for a highly reliable, Full-time evening/night shift *Career Baker (FT, approx. 3pm-12am, 4 days a week) to add to our team of wholesale cafe bakers at our St. Johns location in N. Portland. Come learn the old-world craft of artisanal baking! *Professional baking experience is preferred, but we are willing to train an eager apprentice.

As a professional Baker for Sparrow, you should have: excellent fine motor skills, an attention to detail and aesthetic, a penchant for consistency and incremental improvements over time, as well as the ability to work with urgency and efficiency. Pastry baking can be satisfying work because at the end of each shift you will have an opus of products that you produced, and both the satisfaction in seeing those physical beauties, along with witnessing the customers enjoyment of your work; which can cultivate a real feeling of fulfillment in our bakers. Duties may also include: bake prep, occasional lamination, shaping, boiling and baking bagels, quick bread and cookie batters and doughs.

Starting pay will depend upon relevant experience:

Pay will start between $20-22+ per hour + approx. $3 / hour in tips for an Experienced Baker (+1 yr professional experience)

Pay will start between $18.50-$20 per hour + approx. $3/hr in tips for an Apprentice Level Baker (less than 1 year professional experience)
