Kitchen Assistant- Riverfront School & Career Center

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for cooking simple meals for clients and staff. Responsible for maintaining and following a sanitation schedule for the kitchen and appliances. Follows necessary guidelines for food handling, storage and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Certification: Food Handler's License
3. Experience: Institutional or volume cooking experience. Working with youth from diverse backgrounds
4. Availability: Monday Thursday, 10 AM -n 12 PM, Friday 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM
5. Driver's License: Valid in Oregon, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency's auto insurance.

   Knowledge of proper use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils

   Knowledge of proper storage and use of food

   Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team

   Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources

   Ability to work in a structured, often stressful, environment and maintain a positive mental attitude

   Ability to maintain a sanitary kitchen facility and complete cleaning tasks

   Good communication skills

   Basic computer skills: MS Office, email

   Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds

   Ability to maintain confidentiality

   Professional appearance appropriate to the position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

1. Develops menus and prepares nutritious, appealing simple meals for youth and staff (15-20 people). Serving meals at designated times
2. Purchases food for the program within a budget.
3. Ensures safety standards are followed.
4. Order and pick up donated food from community food bank and other sources.
5. Reports kitchen maintenance needs to supervisor and follows up as appropriate.
6. Develops and maintains a recipe file.
7. Clean and sanitize surfaces equipment as needed and at the end of each shift, ensuring that the kitchen is clean and prepared for other workers.
