FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

Assists the chef and prepares food to produce high volume and high quality food by performing the following duties. Provide short order cook duties in the café as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Food Prep. Specifically you are expected to:
    • Prepare nutritious, appealing meals in a timely manner in accordance with established portion control procedures, standardized recipes, special diet orders.
    • Review menus and obtains necessary ingredients.
    • Ensure appropriate food and supplies are available for next meal.
  1. Communication. Specifically you are expected to:
    • Maintain communication between shifts.
    • Follow posted schedules, prep lists, function sheets and board notes.
  1. Safety and Sanitation: Specifically you are expected to:
    • Complete daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
    • Comply with safety procedures and state sanitation standards.
    • Be concerned with safety. Follow safety protocol to reduce the chance of self injury.
    • Follow safety regulations, infection control, and universal precaution procedures at all times.
  1. Stock and Inventory: Specifically you are expected to:
    • Assist with inventory and storage of incoming food and supplies.
  1. Consistent/Reliable. Specifically you are expected to:
    • Establish a track record of quality so that the supervisor and customers have a high degree of confidence that the assignment will be completed thoroughly.
    • Follow through with special assignments.
    • Complete your assigned workload.
  1. Attendance. Specifically you are expected to:
    • Come to work on time.
    • Follow the appropriate call out procedure if unable to be at work.
    • Use accrued time appropriately without excessive call-outs.
    • Attend 10 in-services annually.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years cooking experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to read, write, and speak the English language.

Knowledge of current therapeutic and regular diet plans.

Knowledge of state sanitation standards.

Ability to relate well to all members of the Glenmeadow Community.

Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and the general public.
