Title : Assistant Cook

Primary Objective:

  • Provide assistance to all students and staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operations of the Food Service department with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • Works well with minimal supervision; able to follow instructions
  • Friendly and professional attitude; works well with others
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • A cooperative spirit and an understanding and interest in the well-being of children.
  • Must have valid Illinois driver’s license

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for preparing the vegetables and fruit scheduled for the daily lunch.
  2. Pulls the menu items and supplies needed for the daily lunch and/or days requested.
  3. Verifies the scheduled menu items are placed in proper area:
  4. cold food items in cooler; hot food items in the hot units
  5. verifies hot units are holding at the proper temperature; if not, notifies the Director.
  6. Verifies all huts at MES and MIS and MJH have the correct amount of menu items for each line; replenishes what menu items are needed.
  7. Assists with preparing the daily entrée and sets up the scheduled entrée for the next few days as needed.
  8. Prepares the daily lunch sheet for Food Servers.
  9. Transports hot units and other menu items needed for lunch at MIS/MES.
  10. Enters menu item used and orders received in the inventory book.
  11. After the lunches are served, helps the cook empty the hot units and process leftover menu items.
  12. Assists the cook fill out the daily production work sheet.
  13. Assists the cook with the inventory of the pantry and freezer.
  14. Checks in and out the equipment received from Trinity
  15. Checks in orders from vendors and government deliveries.
  16. Puts away stock and rotates as needed in pantry, refrigerator and freezer
  17. Required to work register for the lunches.
  18. Assists with other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bending, carrying, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 30 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Includes extremes of temperature and humidity
  • Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases

Terms of Employment:

  • 171 days (includes 4 paid holidays) per fiscal year, 4.5 hours per day
