As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing meals on a large scale, following established menus and USDA guidelines. You will also accommodate dietary restrictions and ensure that food safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines.
  • Coordinate the daily menu by thawing and preparing frozen meat.
  • Minimize food waste and utilize leftovers within mandated timeframes.
  • Maintain records of menu substitutions and document any changes in meal preparation.
  • Clean equipment, dishes, and work areas, restocking and cleaning the cafeteria.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments to meet client needs.
  • Assist with tracking and communicating supply needs to the manager.
  • Prepare food for special events as requested.
  • Report any equipment issues to the supervisor.

Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year of employment history.
  • Basic understanding of nutrition is beneficial.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must provide evidence that incumbent is free of infectious and contagious disease, such as TB, prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter.
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, and abuse/neglect.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of First Aid training is required.
  • Successful completion of ServSafe Course.
  • Obtained Hepatitis A vaccination prior to handling food products - required for all St. Louis area staff.

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work: This job requires heavy physical work, involving exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Significant walking or standing, or sitting while using arm or leg controls, or working at a fast pace with constant pushing and pulling of materials, even if they are light.
  • The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, use their hands, reach, talk, hear, and have good vision, including close and distance vision.
  • Ability to navigate stairs.
