The Greenwich Country Day School seeks an experienced Cold Food Prep Cook to join our dynamic school culinary team in August 2025! The GCDS Dining Hall team takes great pride in serving hundreds of students, faculty, and staff each day. The role of the Cold Food Prep Cook is a key position, involving a high level of interaction with students, faculty, staff, and Dining Hall colleagues. We seek individuals who are excited to be an integral part of our "all hands on deck" culture and will foster positive interactions with all members of our school community. The successful candidate will be a punctual and reliable, hard-working, self-starter who takes pride in a job well done.

GCDS Dining Halls are self-operated. We do not contract with a food service company. We proudly prepare and provide restaurant-quality food with a focus on sustainability in all aspects of our food service operations. And we have a farm!

This is a full-time, 10-month/year position. Regular hours will be Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. All kitchen and dining room personnel must be available to work evening and/or weekend special events, as scheduled.

The ideal candidate will have:

+ Proven food service experience in cold food preparation

+ Expertise in crafting beautiful buffet platters and preparing bulk cold food items

+ Previous work experience in a banquet facility or hotel setting is a must

+ A genuine enjoyment of being around children, as you'll be working in a school environment

Responsibilities Include:

+ Provide safe food each day to children who have dietary restrictions due to allergies, sensitivities, or religious observance

+ Maintain above standard level of cleanliness in all areas of the kitchen

+ Assist in the planning of special event menus and daily lunch menus

+ Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

+ Ability to lift 25-50+ pounds and stand for long stretches of time

Required Qualifications:

+ 3-5 years of experience in related food service

+ Through experience with cold food prep, salad dressings, whole grains, and compound salads.

+ Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills

+ Willingness to take on multiple roles within the food service department

+ Flexibility and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues within and outside of the department

+ Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community

+ Ability to work well under pressure and with the time constraints of a busy commercial kitchen

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Associates or higher degree from an accredited culinary arts program
