Job Goal:

Leads the work of Food Service Workers and performs food service operations for the purpose of

serving a variety of quality foods to students at school food service sites under optimal sanitary

conditions. Ensures compliance with United States Department of Agriculture, New Mexico Public Education Department, Southwest Training Systems, and New Mexico Environment Department regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads Food Service workers at one or more food serving sites.
  • Assists in planning menus.
  • Plans directs, and participates in the preparation of food.
  • Posts menus.
  • Supervises and instructs in production of portion control.
  • Store or direct the storage and proper disposal of excess foods.
  • Assist in the directing and training of general helpers assigned under you for the day.
  • Attend meetings and participate on committees within areas of specific responsibility as required.
  • Work cooperatively and maintain professional relationships with Deming Public Schools' employees and other professionals within specific areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains food production records.
  • Leads and participates in food service operations including overseeing cafeteria serving, general kitchen help, cafeteria serving, assisting in food preparation, or other related duties.
  • Maintains personal hygiene and hygienic serving conditions in accordance with New Mexico environmental code and instructs food service workers in personal hygiene requirements.
  • Operates a variety of food preparation and service equipment.
  • Supervises serving lines for breakfast and lunch.
  • Performs daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are met, as needed.
  • Maintains order and safety in the kitchen and cafeteria.
  • Washes dishes and trays, cleans, sweeps, and mops food service areas, as needed.
  • Completes and maintains records such as USDA documentation, production records, inventories, and temperature logs.
  • Oversees students assisting with food service.
  • May operate food delivery vehicles.
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Leading a food service worker staff in preparing and serving food.
  • Directing workers in food service activities.
  • Food serving rules and regulations and procedures- USDA, NMPED, Southwest Training Systems, and NMED compliance.
  • Personal hygiene and maintaining hygienic food serving conditions.
  • Safety procedures.
  • Basics of food service preparation, serving, and cleanliness.
  • Modern office equipment including PCs and related software.
  • Modern food service equipment.

ABILITY TO:

  • Lead a food service worker crew in preparing and serving food.
  • Operate a variety of food preparation and service equipment.
  • Perform food service and cleaning operations.
  • Maintain personal hygiene and a clean, safe working and serving area.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability required to perform the work is acceptable as education and experience for food service positions; one-year previous experience with cooking and food preparation/serving is required, education and

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License for the operation of a school vehicle.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Civil rights training.
  • Mandated district training.
