SUMMARY OF JOB The first cook is directly responsible for creation of daily menus, consisting of three meals per day, for the residents of Magnificat; as well as the preparation of all food and beverage items related to those meals. Meals should be attractive and nutritious for residents. The first cook is also responsible for the maintenance of sanitary conditions in the production area as well as tracking and purchasing of all supplies needed for meal preparation, as well as preferred meal items/snack for the residents. CONNECTING TO MISSION: The primary purpose of this job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Sisters of the Redeemer, Unit Manager and the VP of Residential Services. RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent highly desirable for anyone over the age of eighteen. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to read and execute recipes Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using of American money and weight measurement and volume. Ability to work safely using cut gloves Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to work multiple shifts and be flexible in scheduling. Comfortable working with the public and good customer service skills required. Previous food service experience is required LICENSE AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: Complies with local, state and federal regulations related to food service and health care.
