Ovenbird Cafe in Belmont, MA is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Morning Baker to join our kitchen team and help us provide freshly baked goods to our customers each day. The ideal candidate is an early riser with a passion for baking, capable of producing high-quality pastries, breads, and other baked items with consistency and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake a variety of baked goods including breads, pastries, muffins, cookies, and specialty items according to recipes and quality standards
- Arrive early to begin daily production and ensure products are ready for opening hours
- Measure and mix ingredients accurately and operate baking equipment safely
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to all food safety and sanitation standards
- Monitor inventory levels of baking supplies and communicate restocking needs
- Assist in developing and testing new recipes or seasonal offerings
- Label, date, and store baked items appropriately
- Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and communicate effectively with the front-of-house team
Qualifications
- Previous baking experience preferred, especially in a commercial or cafe setting
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques, dough handling, and proofing times
- Ability to follow recipes with precision and maintain consistency
- Comfortable working early morning shifts (start times between 4:006:30 AM)
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
- Food Handlers Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Schedule
- Early morning shifts (e.g., 4:30 AM 12:00 PM), including weekends and holidays as needed
