Master Cook

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission is seeking a dedicated and experienced Master Cook to join our kitchen team. Our kitchen and dining hall serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner 365 days a year to individuals in our Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program, Men’s and Women’s Overnight Shelter, and the local community through our daily evening Community Meal.

Position Overview:

As a Master Cook, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of our kitchen. You will lead food preparation and meal service, uphold high standards of cleanliness and safety, and help support our recovery and volunteer programs. This role reports directly to the Chef.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Check in with the previous shift and clock in at the beginning of each workday.

  • Prepare ingredients and cook meals according to the assigned schedule, following health and safety regulations.

  • Lead the plating and serving of meals during your assigned periods.

  • Properly label, store, and organize donated and ordered food items.

  • Maintain accurate inventory and storage practices, including labeling and dating products in refrigerators and freezers.

  • Support deep cleaning routines in the kitchen and dining hall.

  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned, maintained, and functioning properly.

  • Report any maintenance needs using the appropriate request form.

  • Conduct routine checks of refrigerators and freezers to ensure cleanliness, proper organization, food rotation, and temperature compliance.

  • Support the Mission’s Work Therapy Program, helping residents develop professional kitchen and workplace skills.

  • Engage positively with our volunteer program, ensuring a welcoming and productive environment.

  • Leave the kitchen clean and ready for the next shift, including taking out trash and cardboard.

  • Attend staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the Chef.

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Valid Southern Nevada Health District Food Handler Safety Training Card.

  • Solid understanding of safe food handling and culinary practices.

  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with a passion for service and supporting others.
