Roch’s Fresh Foods is looking for a Sushi food preparer to join the team here at our West Greenwich specialty market.
Roch’s Fresh Foods has been part of the Rhode Island community since the 1930s. It began as a family business – bringing the freshest fruits and vegetables to retail and food service customers all over southern New England. Today we operate a state-of-the-art HACCP-certified distribution warehouse in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, and Roch’s Fresh Foods Specialty Market in Narragansett and West Greenwich.
About the Position: In the Sushi food preparer role, you will be responsible for preparing and executing raw seafood dishes, focusing on sashimi, salads, sushi rolls, and other creative raw fish presentations. This role blends artistry, precision, and technical expertise to enhance our prepared foods offerings and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
About You: You are passionate about food. You have a strong sense of urgency, great organizational skills, and a positive attitude. You have prior prepared food experience.
Essential Duties
- Prepare sushi dishes, including rolls, sashimi, seaweed salads, and nigiri, following established recipes and presentation standards.
- Ensure the quality and freshness of all raw ingredients, especially seafood
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to maintain smooth and efficient service operations.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the sushi & raw bar station and kitchen.
- Inspect and maintain sushi bar equipment, reporting any issues to management.
- Follow food safety and sanitation protocols to meet the highest hygiene standards.
- Engage with guests, as this is a guest-facing role, delivering exceptional service and fostering memorable dining experiences.
- Produce sushi rice daily, ensuring proper preparation and quality.
Skills & Abilities:
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift and move 25-50 pounds
- Be collaborative, using a team approach to creating an equitable workplace environment and having respectful working relationships
- Maintain a Premier Level of Customer Service

Qualifications
- 2 years culinary education or experience and/or training as a Sushi food preparer in an Asian restaurant or grocery store.
- Must have flexible schedule to work during days, nights, weekends, and some holidays as needed
- Knowledgeable in Asian and/or Japanese cuisine, as well as sushi types and rolling technique required.
