Farmington Valley farm-to-market restaurant with stellar reputation for great food seeks a committed, skilled pastry chef/baker to work 40 hour week from 11PM to 7AM. You will be responsible for the following: bake all restaurant bread (baguettes, rolls, flatbreads, crackers) for next day's service according to existing recipes and specifications (though your creativity and input are welcomed!); Maintain proper inventory of dessert items for menu. Dessert menu changes and pastry chef will have major creative input working with chef de cuisine; prepare pastries from scratch for breakfast service, corporate meetings and weddings. Our ideal team member will possess the following: 1) An overall understanding of scratch baking to include breads, doughs, starters, sponges, sweet & savory pastry doughs, leavening, custards, sauces, cakes, cookies, chocolate tempering and more. 2) A well-organized yet sociable work standard, be willing to share space, help out others, ask for help and be willing to give 100% while at work. 3) A strong desire to be a part of a great time of cooks producing phenomenal food. 4) Be a "self-starter" within a supportive work environment while being willing to give and take constructive criticism. (Read: No whiners) While proficiency in layer cakes, buttercreams and fondants is a plus, it is not a requirement. Formal training and/or significant apprenticeship and at least three years of solid work experience (sweet & savory is fine) along with portfolio is required for consideration. Strong candidates will be required to perform a working stage (paid try-out), create several desserts, and pass a written culinary examination. Don't worry, we're not looking for the perfect candidate, just a really good fit. This is a full-time, year-round position. Compensation commensurate with experience.
